In summer 2022 The Joy Labs partnered with local nonprofit Engage Winona to create community mini-murals. Each panel was inspired by one of the City of Winona comprehensive Plan draft vision and values statements created with community input during 2021-2022. The Joy Labs designed the panels and over 285 community members added their vibrancy and creativity to the panels at the Farmer’s Market, the Band Shell at Lake Park, the East End Rec Center and Peter’s Biergarten. Now complete, their first stop is the Winona Friendship Center. From there, they will be a roving exhibit at a variety of community spaces around town.

A comprehensive plan is an overarching plan that sets goals for the community’s next 20 years. So far, m ore than 2,500 people have been involved in engagement for the plan, through surveys, conversations, fun pop-up booths, and more. Engage Winona has led the engagement efforts.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
