Community Builds! Maplewood Community Mural

The Joy Labs partnered with the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (mmam) and the Winona Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA) on the Community Builds! project aimed at increasing vibrancy, art and positive connections in the community. Residents of the Maplewood neighborhood were invited to a co-design party in the spring to help guide the color palette and design. In early fall, over the course of three days, 70+ youth and adults contributed to the flora-themed mural, bringing new life to a retired 60x30 foot volleyball court. Plans are already underway for continuing to add to the mural and spreading the community creativity beyond the court’s borders.

Special thanks to Burggraf’s ACE Hardware for their generous donation of paint, and to mmam docent and volunteer Allan Lieder & Jason from Studio 24 for their drone photography.
